This December, for 6 days, I have been so lucky to be a part of an Anthony Robbins seminar called ‘Date with Destiny‘ in Boca Raton, Florida. Let me tell you upfront: it was extraordinary and I highly recommend you to attend one of his seminars sometime. The sooner you go, the longer you have to profit from it in your life!
The most important thing I learned
One of the profound impacts that the seminar had on me has to do with gratitude. I have read so much about the beneficial effects of practicing gratitude and of course I have experimented with keeping a gratitude journal, but it never stuck.
During one of the gratitude meditations that we did, all of the sudden, I started to feel extremely grateful for my parents, like I never have before. It wasn’t so much a cognitive understanding, it was a feeling and it was way more powerful and hard to express in words.
After the seminar, I gave both of my parents a call to tell them how much I love them and how grateful I am for them, even though the relationship with my mother has (always) been very difficult. Both of them started to cry instantly and I felt an enormous weight lift off my shoulders. It was beautiful.
I can not imagine having done anything like this upon reading a book, or otherwise (often uninspiring) academic article. Knowing that something is good for you often isn’t enough. Sometimes we just need to experience it in order to see, feel, hear and know how powerful it really is. Now that I have experienced it, it can become a way of life for me, internalize it.
Does Robbins base all of his statements and claims on academic research? You bet he doesn’t. Is he making things change for the better where it really matters? You bet he is. And I believe that’s worth something.
I got plenty of other inspiring, yet mostly very personal, insights during the seminar. For the next couple of months, I will focus on putting them all into practice, because that’s when they become truly valuable.
Interestingly, when I told about my experiences with the seminar, most people asked me:
What does Date with Destiny cost?
Around $3.500,- depending upon your time of registration, whether you are able to get a discount or whether you prefer to follow the seminar in what’s called the Destiny Lounge, which is smaller room next to the main one with large TV-screens.
It’s a lot of money for a seminar, but it’s totally worth it in my opinion.
