Ryan Niemiec is licensed psychologist, researcher, author and a leader in the field of positive psychology.
Dr. Niemiec is the Education Director of the VIA Institute on Character located in Cincinnati. This is a nonprofit that serves to teach people about positive psychology through both science and social applications. Ryan heads these classes with online workshops offered to teach individuals about their character strengths, which they may have never known they possessed before.
In the following video, Ryan Niemiec talks about the importance of character strengths and how you can use them to enhance your life.
Providing Strength for All
Ryan Niemiec tours the globe giving talks at various conferences, counseling for both businesses and individuals. He also assists with weight loss programs, pain management, mental health, spiritual guidance, at prisons, homeless shelters, and numerous related clinics at hospitals whenever he has the opportunity to lend his insight and expertise.
Dr. Niemiec is also big on meditation as the center of channeling one’s strength and focusing on the positives in life. This is more than just a personal choice, he teaches his meditation techniques and more with his own program he authored called Mindfulness-Based Strengths Practice. It has been successful not just in his home state of Ohio, or America, but also in other parts of the world.
Where to Start
Niemiec has written and co-authored 3 books based on his Positive Psychology doctrine, with his most recent book last year, titled “Movies and Mental Illness: Using Films to Understand Psychopathology”. This book is a good example of how applicable his teachings are, as he touches upon influences in our modern pop culture, making this much more accessible than your traditional psychology works. He has also authored the brilliant book ‘Positive Psychology at the Movies‘, in which he teaches you how to use films and movies to learn about the concepts of positive psychology and apply its benefits in real life.
When Dr. Niemiec isn’t writing books or teaching at the VIA Institute, he represents Xavier University as their adjunct professor and visits various educational institutions and organizations to give talks. You may have already been introduced to some of his work without knowing it. His writing has appeared in Huffington Post, USA Today, and even Dr. Oz.
